“When Christ was with them, the disciples received instruction. But only when the Holy Spirit came upon them did they receive the power (dunamis) they needed to witness for Him (“You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come”). -Sinclair Ferguson, In Christ Alone: Living the Gospel-Centered Life

Lord, this is what we still need–power. Your power, to witness to the people you have called us to live among.

Make us look more like Your Son and embolden us to hold out the hope of redemption and saving faith for others.

Grant us a hunger and thirst for Your Word, Your presence, Your voice and Your Gospel.

Mature us, Your church, and help us to clothe ourselves in humility, love, joy, peace, gentleness and the graciousness You’ve extended to us.

And may we not rest until we find rest in You.

“How do we “receive power”? It is the fruit not merely of book learning but of Christ fellowshipping–being more with Him, engaging in serious intercession in His name, meditating more on His glories. Perhaps in our much studying and discussing we have lost the biblical art of “waiting” and are all too prone to run ahead when the Spirit has not sent us with His anointing.” -Sinclair Ferguson, In Christ Alone: Living the Gospel-Centered Life
