“A private faith that does not act in the face of oppression is no faith at all.”
-William Wilberforce

According to this article, Tshering Lama is on a mission to eradicate child trafficking in his home country of Nepal, a place where 10,000-20,000 children, mostly girls, were trafficked over the open border with India, and to African and Middle East countries, after the April 2015 earthquake.

“The traffickers trick parents by telling them that they will give their children a better life, an education and jobs,” said Tshering. “Because of the earthquake damage they tell the parents there is nothing left for their children. Because we can’t keep the youngsters in schools after they were destroyed by the earthquake, the trafficking problem is increasing.”

The article (which you should read), highlights the new film SOLD (by Executive Director Emma Thompson), about a girl trafficked from her village in Nepal to a brothel in India and risks everything for freedom.

We cannot sit idly by while this happens around the world (including in the United states). Church, arise. Where are the abolitionists of our time? The William Wilberforces? The Hannah Mores? The John Newtons?

Jesus said that God the Father sent Him to earth “to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent Me to proclaim liberty to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor.”

Okay, so has He not left us, His kids, on this earth to finish the mission? We are His representatives. Let us follow Him in obedience. We don’t have to pray about helping put an end to modern slavery or abortion—He’s clearly given His will on such things. The time for action is here.

“There have been always, in all times and countries, a counteracting energy which has opposed itself to the crimes and miseries of mankind. But it seems to have been reserved for Christianity to increase this energy, and to give it the widest possible domain… to cut off many of the causes of wretchedness, and to heal it wherever it was found.” -Thomas Clarkson, British Abolitionist of Slavery
