A December First Prayer

“Because you have done this… he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:14a, 15b

“No sooner was the wound given than the remedy was provided and revealed.”
-Matthew Henry

God, during this Advent season, a season of waiting, anticipation, and confident expectation, be the center of this heart’s focus and affection.

Loom larger than anything else. Captivate our hearts and occupy our thoughts more than the latest sales or Christmas to-do lists. Remind us what a delight it is to simply be

So help us to be still. To pause. To Psalm 103 our lives and forget not all Your benefits but to instead propel ourselves into positions of worship, blessing You for doing the unimaginable not just once when You became small, but repeatedly throughout Your time on earth and now forever as You continually intercede for us as our great High Priest and Champion over death.

Help our souls to overflow with adoration as we recount the reality that the Uncreated condescended to become a created being. The Deliverer delivered. The Rescuer rescued from the trauma of birth. The infinite One who, though He was cuddled on His mother’s chest, would die for those who chose to cuddle their sin instead of His love.

Jesus, thank You. Thank You that You were born so we could have life, and not just some trivial existence but life abundantly

This December, and every day thereafter, would You help us to actively fix our gaze on the One who brings eternal Christmas to the soul? Amen.
